IPTV EPG Not Working? Fix the TV Guide on TiviMate & IPTV Smarters
When an IPTV EPG is not working, live channels may still play while the TV guide stays blank, shows “No information,” or displays programs at the wrong time. The fix is usually a guide refresh, a playlist update, a correct device clock, or a repaired EPG source. Use the steps below in order so you can solve the problem without deleting a working setup.
Menu names can differ slightly between TiviMate, IPTV Smarters, Smart TV apps, and app versions. Save your server URL, username, password, M3U link, and any custom EPG URL before removing a playlist or clearing app data.
Quick Fix: Refresh the IPTV Guide in the Right Order
- Confirm that live channels open normally.
- Check that the device date, time, and time zone are automatic.
- Update or refresh the playlist.
- Refresh the EPG or TV guide inside the player.
- Leave the app open for a few minutes while guide data downloads.
- Force-stop and reopen the app.
- Test another channel category to see whether the problem affects all channels.
If the guide returns after these steps, no reset is needed. If channels play but every EPG entry remains blank, continue with the source and mapping checks.
What Is an IPTV EPG?
EPG stands for Electronic Program Guide. It supplies program names, start times, end times, descriptions, and sometimes images. The video stream and the guide are separate data sources, which is why a channel can play correctly even when its schedule is missing.
With an Xtream-style login, the player often receives channel and guide information from the same service account. With an M3U playlist, the app may need a separate XMLTV or EPG URL. Availability depends on the provider, the player, and the channel identifiers used to match listings.
10 Fixes for a Blank or Incorrect IPTV EPG
1. Check Whether Live Channels Work
Open channels from several groups. If channels do not play either, start with the connection and login instead of the guide. The IPTV buffering troubleshooting guide covers network, cache, and playback checks. If channels work and only listings are missing, focus on EPG refresh and mapping.
2. Refresh the Playlist Before the EPG
The channel list should be current before the app maps guide entries to channels. Use the player’s Update Playlist or Refresh Channels option, wait for it to finish, then update the EPG. This order helps when channel names or IDs changed on the server.
3. Run a Manual EPG Update
Open the app’s Settings and look for EPG, TV Guide, Program Guide, or Guide Sources. Choose Update, Refresh, or Sync. Keep the app open until the download finishes. Large guides may need a few minutes, especially on a device with limited storage or memory.
4. Set Date, Time, and Time Zone Automatically
An incorrect device clock can shift every listing or make the guide appear empty around the current time. Enable automatic date and time, confirm the correct time zone, restart the player, and refresh the EPG again. Use an EPG time offset only when the device clock is correct but listings are consistently early or late.
5. Verify the Login or EPG Source
For an Xtream-style account, confirm the server URL, username, and password exactly as provided. For an M3U setup, check whether your provider also supplied an XMLTV or EPG address and add it to the correct playlist. Do not post these URLs publicly because they can contain account credentials.
6. Check the EPG Source Assignment
Players that support multiple playlists can also have multiple guide sources. Make sure the correct EPG source is assigned to the active playlist. Remove duplicate or old sources only after saving the current settings. A valid guide attached to the wrong playlist will not populate the expected channels.
7. Clear Cache, Not App Data
Force-stop the player and clear its cache from the device’s application settings. Reopen it and update the guide. Cache clearing removes temporary files, while Clear Data can erase playlists, favorites, and login details. Use Clear Data only as a last resort after backing up the setup.
8. Free Storage and Update the App
EPG databases can be large. Delete unused apps or downloads if the device is nearly full, then install available player and system updates. A current app version may also include fixes for guide downloads, database handling, and channel mapping.
9. Test Without Custom DNS, VPN, or Filters
If you already use a VPN, custom DNS, ad blocker, or router filter, temporarily disable it and refresh the guide. Restore the setting after the test. Do not add a VPN as a random EPG fix. The goal is to identify whether an existing network layer blocks the guide request.
10. Ask Whether the EPG Source Is Available
When live channels work on multiple devices but the guide is blank everywhere, the source may be temporarily unavailable or may not include listings for those channels. Contact support with the app name, device, affected channel group, and refresh time. Never send credentials in a public ticket or forum.
Fix IPTV EPG in TiviMate
In TiviMate, open Settings and look for EPG. Run Update EPG, then review the latest update status if your version shows it. Next, open Playlists, select the active playlist, and update it. Return to the guide after the playlist refresh finishes.
If only a few channels have no information, open the channel options and check the Assign EPG function. Select the closest correct listing instead of remapping the entire playlist. If every channel is wrong by the same number of hours, correct the device time zone first, then use the app’s offset setting only if necessary.
If you need to rebuild the device setup, follow the TiVistation guides for Android TV or Firestick. Keep a secure copy of the login before removing the playlist.
Fix IPTV EPG in IPTV Smarters
Open the IPTV Smarters settings and look for Refresh EPG, Update EPG, or Download Guide. Some versions place refresh controls on the home screen or beside the live TV section. Update the playlist first, then refresh the guide and leave the app open while it downloads.
If the guide remains blank, confirm that the account was added with the connection method supplied by your provider. Re-enter the server URL carefully and avoid adding spaces. Before deleting the user profile, save the exact details and test the same account on another supported device.
EPG Works but Shows the Wrong Programs
Wrong listings usually indicate a time-zone mismatch or a channel-to-guide mapping problem. First set the device clock and time zone to automatic. If all listings are shifted equally, test the EPG offset. If only certain channels are wrong, remap those channels individually or report their names to the provider.
Duplicate channel names can also confuse automatic matching. The player may attach a listing with a similar name from another country or time zone. Manual assignment is safer than changing the global time offset when only one or two channels are affected.
M3U vs. Xtream Login for EPG
An M3U URL primarily describes the playlist. Some M3U setups include guide identifiers and require a separate XMLTV URL. An Xtream-style login uses a server address, username, and password and often lets the app request live TV, on-demand sections, and EPG data through the same account.
Neither method guarantees complete guide coverage. Use the method your provider supports for your chosen player. If both are available, test them as separate profiles before replacing the working profile, and never expose either login format in screenshots.
Prevent Future EPG Problems
- Keep automatic date, time, and time zone enabled.
- Allow scheduled playlist and EPG updates if the player supports them.
- Leave enough free storage for guide data.
- Avoid duplicate playlists and unused EPG sources.
- Save credentials securely before reinstalling or clearing data.
- Update the player from a trusted source.
IPTV EPG FAQ
Why do channels work but the EPG is blank?
The video stream and program guide are separate. A working channel proves playback is available, but the EPG download, source assignment, channel mapping, or device time may still be wrong.
How long should an EPG update take?
A small guide may appear quickly, while a large playlist can take several minutes on a slower device. Keep the app open during the first refresh. If there is no progress or update timestamp, restart the app and try once more.
Why is my IPTV guide one or two hours wrong?
Check the device time zone and daylight-saving settings first. If every channel has the same shift after the clock is corrected, use the player’s EPG offset. If only a few channels are wrong, remap those channels instead.
Will clearing cache delete my IPTV login?
Clearing cache normally removes temporary files without deleting the user profile. Clearing app data or reinstalling can remove accounts, favorites, and settings, so save your details before using those options.
Can I add a separate XMLTV URL?
Many players support a separate guide source, but your provider must supply a compatible URL and the channel identifiers must match. Add the source to the correct playlist and refresh both the playlist and the EPG.
Still Need Help?
Send support the device model, player name and version, connection method, affected channel group, whether live channels work, and the time of your last EPG refresh. Do not include the password in a public message.
